Energy Finance Sr. Associate Job Description

 

The Finance Sr. Associate will be responsible for opportunity identification, financial modeling, due diligence, and market research for clean energy and sustainable infrastructure projects, pipeline acquisitions or investments, and project financing transactions. The Sr. Associate will work to support the growth of the company by underwriting, modelling, and structuring investment opportunities in partnership with the deal Origination team. The applicant is ideally located in the Marin County area but could be located elsewhereand should have at least 3 years’ experience at an investment firm, renewable energy developer, investment bank, project finance accounting firm, or bank and experience with energy storage project modelling.

 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and manage financial models analyzing the economics of storage and solar projects, portfolio acquisitions at NTP, and tax-equity or debt transactions.
  • Develop and maintain data rooms for use in financing transactions
  • Diligence and identify incentives and/or rate tariff data and market data relevant to modeling financial returns available from BESS and/or solar projects nationwide.
  • Run RFPs for various third party services and/or for solar or storage components
  • Draft investment memos detailing market analysis and returns sensitivities for potential project and portfolio acquisitions. Communicate results and recommendations to the management team.
  • Support third party capital raises, including debt, tax equity, refinancing's and project equity structures that allow the company to efficiently finance projects and optimize returns.
  • Collaborate across internal teams including Development & Construction, Engineering, and Asset Management to develop underwriting assumptions.
  • Manage due diligence and third-party consultant reports. Coordinate directly with external parties.
  • Support the growth of the development pipeline by working with the Origination team to determine competitive bid pricing based on project assumptions, capital structures and market dynamics.
  • Review purchase agreements, operating agreements, financing agreements, and offtake agreements and contract support negotiations.
  • Compile, prepare and/or document all pre-NTP documentation.

 

Requirements

  • Demonstrated financial acumen and experience developing and building complex financial models using Microsoft Excel.
  • Minimum of 3-4 Years’ experience working in the US storage / ancilary services market, and in the US solar market at an investment bank, finance firm, financial consulting, accounting firm, or investment fund supporting MDs, VPs, or other investment personnel.
  • Creative thought process with new products or financial structures to enhance value. Critical thinking. Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Proven track record of working well within a team environment, taking ownership of processes and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results oriented, process oriented with strong organizational and communication skills. Attention to detail and the ability to set and meet realistic deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong English language writing skills
  • Experience working in east coast community solar market would be a plus
  • Proficient on MS Word, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or Engineering.
  • CFA
